Naim Hamdia Afgan is  a Bosnia and Herzegovina born scientist-engineer with especial interest in energy and sustainable development. He is visiting professor and UNESCO Chair for Energy Sustainable Management at the Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. Formerly he was chair for Energy Engineering at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty, University of Zagreb and professor at VINCA Institute of Nuclear Science, Belgrade. He was  a founder of the International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer, where he served as scientific and general secretary for a number of years, and the International Conference on the Sustainable Development of Energy , Water and Environment Systems. His books include Sustainability Assessment of Energy Systems (Kluwer Academic Publisher), Quality, Sustainability and Indicators of Energy Systems (Begell House Publisher), and Sustainable Resilience of Energy System (NOVA Publishers, New York, 2010).
